SPRINGFIELD, IL - With still a few days to go, the Springfield Art Association has met its goal in an online pledge campaign to raise $4,500 for the restoration of Abraham and Mary Lincoln’s “courting couch.” The art association is trying to save the roughly 180-year-old couch where Mary Todd received her suitors, including Abraham Lincoln, and where guests sat at their wedding in 1842.
